NAME: Carrie TIMEZONE: EST BIRTHDAY: October 1st. MESSENGER: AIM: apathyisneat EMAIL ADDRESS. kooolstorybro@gmail.com CDJ: PB: Christian Bale. JOURNAL TO BE USED: |
Basics |
NAME: Rodolphus Alaric Lestrange. Very few people get to call him by anything other than Rodolphus or Mr. Lestrange. AGE/BIRTHDAY: 35 / 12 December 1944 BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood. FORMER HOUSE: Slytherin. 1962 OCCUPATION: If you ask he'll tell you he's a businessman. If you ask what sort of business, he changes the subject. He inherited the title of Head of the Lestrange family when his father died. With that title came the money, investments, and property of the Lestrange family. Rodolphus is independently wealthy and simply manages the investments that his father left behind. Anything else he happens to get involved in is just another one of his many hobbies. |
Relationships |
FAMILY: Alaric Martinus Lestrange.. Deceased. Father. Rodolphus and Alaric never really got along. While growing up, his father put a lot of pressure on him to be The Heir. Rodolphus accepted this title and the responsibilities that came with it. However, he resented the fact that his father treated him as though he was reluctant to be the heir. This lead to verbal spats and a degree of rebellion when Rodolphus was younger. It got to the point where he lost respect for his father because of the lack of respect he himself was given. Rodolphus was the only person to witness his father's death and the only person who knows his father could have been saved had Rodolphus acted more quickly. Verica Persephone Lestrange (née Burke).. Mother. Rodolphus and his mother were not very close and continue that trend to this day. She never seemed to really take much of an interesting in him so he returns the favor by not taking much of an interest in her. Despite this apathy, he cares for his mother and insures she wants for nothing. Rabastan Wulfric Lestrange.. Brother. Rodolphus and Rabastan have always had a good relationship. Rodolphus is one of the only people who know Rabastan is gay. He doesn't much care what his brother does behind closed doors so long as he doesn't tarnish the family name. He'll always defend his brother, something he's done since they were children. As the older brother he feels it's his duty to watch out for Rabastan even if they're now adults. He also goes to Rabastan first whenever he has a new crazy hobby he'd like to try. Despite being adults, there is still an aspect of childish mischief between the two of them when they're left alone together for too long. Bellatrix Violetta Lestrange (nee Black). Wife. Theirs is a marriage of convenience not love. Rodolphus is quite fond of his wife and will defend her to anyone who speaks ill of her. He's rather indulgent of her whims, preferring to give her whatever she wants because as his wife, she deserves it. He will never contradict her or scold her in public but in private he is not afraid to warn her when she begins toeing the line. Overall, he's devoted to her despite them being comfortable living fairly separate lives. Byron and Keats Two Siamese cats that Dolph is rather fond of. They occasionally travel with him and are known to get into trouble. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual. SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Bellatrix Lestrange. CHILDREN:: No. He'd like them but last time he brought it up Bellatrix threatened to cut off his bollocks so he figured he'd wait a little while before bringing it up again. Might have to hide her knife collection next time he asks her about having kids. |
Politics |
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Death Eaters. ROLE IN THE WAR: Despite a certain degree of bloodlust, Rodolphus does not like getting his hands dirty. He never has. He prefers to be quick, clean and concise. He finds it more effective. His role in the war has always been tied to strategy. Rodolphus is known for his ability to stay cool under pressure as well as his ability to see the bigger picture. He's a brilliant strategist and endlessly patient which is a combination that can be deadly. He's got the leadership qualities that make him easy to follow but he lacks the full charisma of a true leader. He knows how to talk to people and he can be quite a charmer. He's not really sure what he lacks, he just knows that he can lead people but not in the same way Voldemort can. He can't inspire that kind of adoration and fear. Rodolphus might not be at the same level as his dear wife but he is still a formidable duelist. He's skilled at casting curses that leave no physical damage. This is why crucio is his favorite curse. He considers it to be 'his' curse and can ramble on about the nuances of the spell which allow for a wide and varying degree of pain infliction. He thinks it is a beautifully crafted curse and no other can rival it. His dueling ability combined with his natural leadership skills have always made him valuable to the Death Eater's efforts. His influence and money just further cement that usefulness. POLITICAL VIEWS: He's a pureblood. He feels as though that should entirely sum up his political views. But if he must break them down and explain then he will: Muggles are dirty creatures that are no more useful than livestock and should be treated as such. Muggle/wizard relationships unless they involve an aspect of slave/master should not be carried out. There is no need to dirty up the blood lines with their unremarkable and unmagical blood. Werewolves are fascinating creatures but they're just that: creatures. They're animals and much like any other half-breed, they're not human and do not deserve the same rights. Blood purity is Very Important and needs to be preserved at all costs. |
Appearance |
APPEARANCE: Rodolphus is an imposing figure. He stands about 6'3, with broad shoulders and a confident stance. In his younger years he was always clean shaven because he felt that presented a better image. But as he's gotten older, he's begun to allow himself to get scruffy on occasion. The scruff doesn't usually last very long because he find it to be itchy and irksome. So he tends to bounce between scruffy and clean shaven. His facial expressions are nearly always reserved. It's very clear that he keeps his emotions under tight control. His smiles never seem to really reach his eyes and thus can be unsettling to some people. He has a bad habit of staring at people. He likes to watch others and observe but sometimes he forgets that it is not socially acceptable to stare someone down. He's very expressive when he talks, not in his facial expression but in his hands. He waves his hands about to emphasize points and has come close to knocking people in the face on occasion. When he's not talking, he tends to tap his fingers against any surface near him which is an interesting dichotomy since finger tapping is usually a sign of impatience, something that doesn't fit Rodolphus at all. He's a fan of well made clothing and usually wears good quality dress robes. |
Personality |
| WAND: 14inches, pine, dragon heartstring, not very flexible. BOGGART: His boggart changes peridocially. It usually takes the form of either his grave stone or the Lestrange Crypt in a state of disrepair and neglect. This is because his greatest fear is allowing his family name to be tarnished and forgotten. PATRONUS: His patronus is an Ethiopian Wolf. It has a mix of wolfish and vulpine traits. Rodolphus can cast a Patronus and his happy thought is his father's funeral and the knowledge that he was now the head of the Lestrange family. It's not the funeral and the death of his father that make him happy. It's the knowledge and comfort that come from knowing his family was in good hands. LIKES: Cooking, casting crucio, Bellatrix, Rabastan, Quidditch, chess, hunting, tea, being in control, organization, hobbies, children. DISLIKES: Baking, Bellatrix, coffee, looking unkempt, chaos, being ignored, insubordination, idiots. STRENGTHS: Cooking, dueling, casting crucio, strategy, leadership, charming people's pants off (not literally), patience, slow to anger WEAKNESSES: Being normal, pride, arrogance, terrifying when angry, control freak, vindictive. KNOWN INFORMATION: Being the head of the Lestrange family as well as being married to Bellatrix Black means that most people know who Rodolphus is. His reputation is not exactly clean and it is rumored he's been involved in some Bad Things but no one can really prove anything. He's got the influence and the money to keep his name officially untarnished. Unofficially, he's know for being eccentric and a bit intimidating despite mostly keeping to himself. Anyone who meets him will come away with the impression that he's a cordial bloke who likes to keep his private life private. He's been linked to the Death Eaters in the past but nothing has been able to be conclusively proved. The case for his wife being a Death Eater is much stronger but refuses to publicly comment on the matter. Most people just write him off as the eccentric rich guy married to the crazy woman. DETAILED PERSONALITY: At his core, Rodolphus likes order. Everything in this world has a place and purpose and it really bothers Rodolpus when things are not running as they should. Growing up he was instilled with all these expectations on how his life should be and he has always very nearly demanded that these expectations be filled. If the world won't fulfill them for him then he'll twist the world's arm until he can fulfill them himself. He expects to be respected and treated like a man of his station should be. He expects a wife that is his match and is interesting enough to provide him with a challenge that keeps him from getting bored. He expects that his family name will be honored and revered for being one of the oldest purest families in Britain. He expects muggles and halfbreeds to be treated as the lesser being they are. He really doesn't think his list of expectations is unmanageable. Those closest to him know him to be an organized, logical, and quirky man. He is very to the point when he speaks, preferring to not waste time with useless chatter. He has always tried to keep emotions out of his decision making process. He believe they cloud up the mind and prevent it from making logical, concise choices. Greed and ambition are two things that Rodolphus possess in large quantities. He's already wealthy so he has no real need to work to gain more galleons and sickles. His greed is for something more than material wealthy. He lusts for power and control. Not absolute control, mind you, because even Rodolphus understands he would not make the best leader. But he still wants more power than he already house. That power comes in many forms: money, influence, station, and control to name a few. To those around him, strangers and acquaintances alike, that lust for power is carefully concealed. His cultivated persona of eccentric rich man is the one he usually displays in public. He's convincing too. Very few people actually suspect he's actually not as eccentric as he makes himself out to be. The eccentricity is just a way for him to explain away any odd behaviors he may have. To be honest, he really does tire with his hobbies quite often. Nothing seems to hold his interest quite like being a Death Eater. Seeing as that is not a viable choice for a hobby, he must fill his time with other things. This stems from feeling like he's useless if he's not actively working on something or doing something that has a semblance of productivity. Patience is a virtue that Rodolphus values. He believes that those who get flustered or impatien too easily only end up looking a fool. Perhaps this is part of the reason that Rodolphus is able to stand being married to Bella. His patience knows very few bounds. It takes a lot to push him over the edge. And when pushed to anger, his temper tends to be icy rather than flaming. When pushed too far he does rant and swear and yell like any other person. But when he does, his voice is rarely ever raised. It just takes on a more stern tone. And when he does manages to get set off, he has a problem with rambling and repeating himself. It's as though the devil-may-care attitude goes out the window when confronted with situations that are so out of his control begin to develop. He loathes chaos and nothing sets him off more than being forced to work somewhere with little organization. Basically, the Death Eaters can expect to get snipped at often. While this may not be the first impression people get of him, Rodolphus is a selfish person in his own way. Marrying Bellatrix was obviously a selfish act. He holds no love for his wife despite his respect and adoration of her which is odd but make sense in his head. Marrying her was selfish because it was about furthering his family name, insuring the purity of his line, and being able to brag about how his marriage was more with the purist ideals than anyone else. Yes, he supports Voldemort and the Death Eaters and he believes in purist rhetoric to the core. But part of him, and this is a big part, has done all this because he wants people to know his name, to fear it, to respect it. He's far from an altruistic Death Eater. Also, when it comes to his brother, and it's not selfishness perse, but he's never been able to see that Rabastan envies him and his status as heir. He takes it completely for granted. he's the heir, Rabastan is the spare. that is just how the world works. so even growing up he never saw how his brother saw the world. Entitlement is a better word than selfishness. It's hard to explain in words how Rod is selfish. He mostly shows it in his actions. For example, he doesn't care that Rabastan is gay but that's not because he has some high, liberal leanings. It's because Rabastan being gay, so long as it doesn't come out, doesn't threaten the family name. And don't get him started about continuing on the family name. He's all about continuing his name because he's a Lestrange, goddamnit. He may have hated his father but he respects his heritage. He's deeply afraid of never accomplishing more than his father did and his father outshining him even from the grave. His heritage is such a big deal to him because his family is so pure and they stretch back so far without mudblood dirtying up the family tree. So many other families ::cough The Blacks:: just burn those who don't fit off the family tree. Rod feels like that is acceptable and normal but the Lestranges have never really had a reason to do that and that's something to take pride in. He wants his family to be the best and he doesn't want to be the reason they fall from glory, so to speak. He takes pride in being pure. There are so many muggles out there, and mudbloods too. It's harder to keep a family pure than it is to relax the rules and allow halfbloods and muggleborns to marry into the family. It's just a personal pride thing. Its the same sort of pride someone has for a country or a hometown. There's no real reason for the pride except for it being their origin. This is where he came from, this family is what made him who he is and he takes pride in that. Though there is a little bit of superiority in that as well. But again, that stems from his family being better because they're more pure. He needs that superiority to distinguish himself in the eyes of the Dark Lord or at least that's how he views it. He's more pure so he should be more favoured, or something like that. Of course this superiority does bite him in the ass on occasion. It makes people dislike him and this is why he's not always a good leader. He's got good leadership qualities but who wants to follow someone who things very little of you? Not many people. And yes. If he had to be a leader he'd still be a good one but he struggles with people being loyal to him and wanting to follow him. He can't win the hearts and minds of his people. Voldemort could, Rod couldn't. He doesn't inspire people and that's why he can't lead really well at times. When people don't take him seriously, it angers him. But he's more likely to bottle up the anger and find a more creative way to take it out on them at a later date. If someone pissed him off enough, instead of screaming and ranting at them, maybe next time they wanted to be included in something he'd exclude them or he'd find ways to get them to have to do things they didn't want to do. His superiority manifests in him ordering people around and acting like he's marginally better than others. It's slight, mostly just him talking up his family, bragging, acting like he's more qualified for basically everything. His reality checks come in the form of his anger and his wife. His temper, when he lashes out, kind of bring him back to reality because he really only gets super angry when he's out of control or surrounded by chaos. So usually if he's angry, he's already had a reality check in the form of YOU CANT CONTROL EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING DOES NOT BEND TO YOUR WHIM. and he gets pissy about it. Bellatrix is a reality check because she's from a good family, she's everything he should want as a Mrs Lestrange yet he can't control her and she sometimes makes a fool of herself or takes things too far. When she does that, it reminds him that no matter how hard he tries, he will never be able to perfectly uphold his superiorty to others. There are too many random factors.....which usually leads to him getting angry. Rod isn't really fond of reality checks. If he's not good at something he stops doing it and declares it boring or pointless. This is part of the reason why he's had a million and one different hobbies over the years. He quits if he's not the best.oh he's terrified he's going to fuck up and The Ruin of the Lestrange Family will be on his back. It's why he quits when he's not the best and why he is so preoccupied with upholding the honor in his family name. This is one of the main reasons he wants kids and will not stop asking bella about it. He's a failure if he doesnt carry on his name. Right now he's failing about having kids and he knows how his wife is. So he's just going to be persistent and keep bringing it up because in his head they still have a few years. Rodolphus has confidence that if Bella and him don't have kids that Rab will suck it up and procreate. He's had girlfriends in the past. So how is that different? He just has to have babies with the girlfriend this time. He can go back to having sexy time with dudes once he's a father. Rodolphus would PREFER that Bella just suck it up and give him one kid. He says that even a girl would be oka- wait. That's a lie. A girl wouldn't be okay. He needs a son. There are some days that Rodolphus regrets marrying Bellatrix but they are few and far between. He only regrets their marriage when it comes to the issue of having children. What makes his marriage worth it? she's interesting and intelligent and very much his equal in life. He likes having someone who is his match and bring as much to the table as he does. It goes back to the family pride thing. Him marrying someone vapid or lacklustre would reflect poorly on him. He wants someone who turn heads and who people talk about, be it in fear or awe. Now, does he ever feel like she takes attention away from him? Of course. But he's a grown man and she's his wife. He's not Rodolphus Black. He's Rodolphus Lestrange. And she took his name so she is his. That means that even when she's taking attention away from him personally, she's still bringing him attention by being a Lestrange. Rodolphus Lestrange thinks it's cute that she still considers herself a Black and he understands the family pride thing very well. In the end, it doesn't matter what she thinks/considers herself. She's Bellatrix Lestrange now. That is her name. He really doesn't see the point in questioning this because in his head these are all no brainers. 'Who cares if she still considers herself a Black. Everyone calls her by my family name.' |
History |
CHILDHOOD: Rodolphus Lestrange grew up with the constant knowledge that he was the heir to his family and there were certain obligations that came with it. He was a serious child who took his title as heir seriously. While this pleased his father, the man also couldn't quite believe a child would actually accept his responsibilities as Rodolphus did. So Alaric spent much of Rodolphus' childhood scolding him for rather minor issues. He grew up seeing very little love or affection from either parent. It wasn't until his brother was born that he actually had someone in his life that he truly cared for. Since he was the heir it was important that he was well educated. His parents sprang for the best tutors. He was schooled in every subject that was appropriate for a boy of his age and standing. He took to studying from a young age, enjoying absorbing himself in his books. When his father told him he studied too much, Rodolphus, being the good heir he was, cut back. Then his father told him he wasn't studying enough. So Rodolphus began studying more. His childhood was an endless attempt to please and appease his father with little success. The resentment this bred within him only grew as he did. HOGWARTS: Upon his arrival to Hogwarts, Rodolphus was quickly sorted into Slytherin. He felt right at home in his new house. The distance that was placed between himself and his father was much needed. It allowed Rodolphus to stretch his metaphorical wings. This only ended up increasing his distaste for his father. Being at Hogwarts made him realize that he was more intelligent and prepared than his father had lead him to believe. Rodolphus dove head first into the social scene at Hogwarts. He was popular among his housemates and joined many of the clubs at school. He was a member of Astronomy Club, Charms Club, and Dueling Club to name a few. His favorite by far was Dueling Club. He found he was a skilled duelist and pushed himself to hone his new found skill. His fourth year he was recruited onto the Quidditch team and played for the next three years as a Chaser. He loved it but was not interested in pursuing it beyond school. Every holiday, Rodolphus found that the thought of going home was more and more unbearable. He did not want to see or deal with his father. He pushed the boundaries and chose to spend Winter Holidays with the family of a friend his Seventh year. Alaric flew into a rage and quite literally dragged Rodolphus back home threatening imperio if he didn't move quickly enough. Rodolphus and Alaric spent the rest of the holiday either avoiding each other or getting into screaming matches. POST-HOGWARTS: Once he graduated Hogwarts, Rodolphus was at a loss as to what to do with his life. He had high enough marks to pursue various careers but nothing really interested him. Why would he want to bend to the whim of some idiot manager when he could spend his time educating himself further. It was around this time that he was approached by the Death Eaters about joining. He was not on good terms with his father and they never really spoke about his affiliations. But it didn't take much convincing from Rodolphus' peers before he decided to take the mark. Life as a Death Eater was perfect for Rodolphus. He cultivated a carefully crafted persona in public so as to not let on that he was anything more than an eccentric playboy. He fell in with a slightly older crowd among the DEs, Robin Nott being more of a father figure to him than his own father had ever been. They developed and interesting relationship. It began with Rodolphus beating the hell out of Nott but somehow turned into drinks and camaraderie. They both had devilish minds and the wit to match. A night out with them was never boring. To make things even more convoluted between them, when Rodolphus dumped the woman he'd spent a year courting for the young, ambitious Bellatrix Black, Rob wasted no time and swooped in to claim her. Much to her annoyance, her former flame was also the best man at her own wedding. It was around this time that Rodolphus went out on a hunting trip with his brother and father. There was a freak accident and Alaric was mortally wounded. Rodolphus was the only witness. Despite standing there watching his father die, he insists there was nothing he could have done to save him. Rodolphus married Bellatrix shortly after they met. They had met through the ranks of the Death Eaters. She was his equal in intellect, ambition and depravity. There was no illusion that this was a marriage of love. This was all about convenience and uphold their pureblooded ways. Their marriage was a good one and it was good because they were comfortable living their own lives. They would often go days, sometimes weeks, without speaking to one another. In the past year, Rodolphus has been in England managing the Lestrange estate. It has come under a lot more scrutiny than ever before. The recent trace on all suspected Death Eaters has gotten to be more than Rodolphus can stand and he's left to join his wife in Egypt. |

FIVE THINGS: Five things you've always wanted to RP out/explore about this character but have never gotten the chance to do before, why you picked this character, things you're most looking forward to playing out with this character, how you think your interpretation stands out, how you’d like for your character to grow over the course of the game, plot ideas, etc. Try to include at least one plot idea for your character. Providing this information helps the mod and other players build plots around your character. • Reason 1 I've been perusing the game and it seems like the Death Eaters need someone to help give them some level of direction. I hope it's not too forward to say this but I'd like Rodolphus to help provide the Death Eaters with more direction and leadership. (Not saying he'll be successful but he'll try!) In Voldemort's absence he feels like it's the older DEs who need to step up and keep everyone from going for each other's throats. I'd really like to see him struggle with the chaos that is the DEs and attempt to lead them with varying degrees of success. • Reason 2 I've talked with Legs already about Rodolphus and Bellatrix. I love the idea of their marriage being one motivated by everything besides love. They've been married for a long time and they've developed this weird understanding. They sleep in separate bedrooms and overall live their own separate lives. However, Rodolphus is very fond of Bellatrix and likes to indulge her every whim. At the same time, he also views his wife as a useful weapon that sometimes needs some direction. I'm still working out the nuances but I really want to grow and develop this unconventional relationship. • Reason 3 I envision Rodolphus as being a bit of an eccentric rich guy. His family has money and he's never really needed to get a real job. He found his calling as a Death Eater but unfortunately that's not something you can put on a business card. So Rodolphus has a bit of a habit of cycling through hobbies rather quickly. And seeing as he has the money, those hobbies have tended towards the unusual and quirky. He's owned a Quidditch team but got bored and sold it. He's dabbled in flying horse racing. He's taken up various sports and he even spent a few weeks pursuing a more serious interest in ballroom dancing. Bellatrix wasn't thrilled when he insisted she join him. I think his eccentricity will be fun to explore as Rodolphus travels around the world with the Death Eaters and encounters all sorts of new things. I just imagine him as collecting new hobbies on the way. • Reason 4 Death Eaters aren't all evil, they're just drawn that way! Okay. That's a bit silly. But I refuse to believe that all Death Eaters are all evil all the time. Rodolphus, who is married to one of the craziest/most fanatical Death Eaters of them all, is still a human being with more to him than a love of torture or having a badass tattoo. I want to explore the aspects of Rodolphus that are more than just the Death Eater stuff. Sure, it plays a big part in his life but I want to see what else influences and drives him. In a game where Voldemort is no more, I feel like I can really explore Rodolphus as more than a Death Eater in a world where being a Death Eater isn't quite as glorious as it once was. • Reason 5 If he gets accepted into the game, he's going to be meeting up with his wife after the Ministry starts seriously suspecting his involvement in the Death Eaters. This is going to be a huge deal for Rodolphus because he's spent his life carefully crafting his public image. To have it all be for naught is going to mess with him. • Reason 6 (Because 4 and 5 are similar) Epic bromance with Rob Nott. Their friendship started with Dolph beating the shit out of him. And then Nott went on to marry the woman Rodolphus scorned. Logically they shouldn't get along but for some reason they do. Hilarity will ensue when these two are in close quarters. |
Samples |
Samples from previous games and for different characters are totally fine. Samples also do not have to be submitted again after you've already been accepted to the game. JOURNAL ENTRY: This country appears to have forgotten what respect and dignity mean. The Ministry's new protocols are ludicrous. [Private to Death Eaters] Prepare for my imminent arrival. I expect things will be in order. I will be arriving in Egypt this evening. [Private to Bellatrix] What are your accommodations currently? And is there anything you wish for me to bring from England? I already procured a few new dresses for you. I realized I had not gifted you with anything in months. That was not acceptable. [Private to Nott] Egypt sounds like a hell hole. I'm coming prepared with my best scotch and a few bottles of whiskey. I expect you can use your connections to find us some good cigars? RP SAMPLE: Taking a sip from his tumbler of scotch, Rodolphus pondered his current predicament. His entire purpose behind staying in England when his wife and comrades headed for Egypt was to man the metaphorical fort. That was growing increasingly hard to do with the sudden scrutiny that was placed on him because of his family's suspected affiliations. Living with a Ministry trace on his magic usage was hell. His fingers tapped idly against the table as he peered at his glass of scotch. The ice was melting and the water and amber liquor swirled together. Rodolphus really didn't want to go to Egpyt but it appeared that he didn't have much of a choice. He called for his house-elf and ordered it to begin packing his things. Rodolphus pulled out a quill and parchment from a nearby drawer and began to draft a letter to his wife. Rodolphus couldn't be sure if she'd be pleased by his arrival or if she'd be annoyed with him. They liked to keep their lives separate and he thought she might see him as trying to get too involved in her life. His fingers combed restlessly through his hair. The next few days were not going to be exactly enjoyable and Rodolphus could only hope that his wife would be in a good mood when he arrived. |
